AI and the Age of Aquarius
There’s an idea in astrology; the procession of the equinoxes. On March 21st, the sun rises in front of a constellation. Due to… the tilt of the Earth? This tends to change every roughly 2-2.5 thousand years.
We are currently in a period between astrological ages; between the end of the Piscean age and entering the age of Aquarius. This implies quite the vibe shift.
Pisces; the fish, the symbol of Christ. Roughly speaking overlaps with the age of Christ and Christianity. It is symbolised by… x y z.
Aquarius is very different. Fair, transparent, solidly technocratic in nature. Democratising, rigidly system-driven.
What interests me is that these qualities overlap very much with those that AI might usher into our world. I suspect that we are heading quite rapidly towards automated governance of ourselves as a species.
Human governments have let us down more times than we can ever hope to recount. But in recent years it has become more blatantly obvious. The Internet, virality, the power of leaks and the power of all our records - we are able to see through their lies, deconstruct their narratives and analyse their funding patterns. It’s not hard to see how the sausage gets made anymore; it’s hard to stick to a prepared narrative.
Every year, the argument for automated governance becomes more compelling. With infinite resources, intelligence and speed, it might well be a societal panacea. If we can get it right.
Automated, transparent, fair, auditable and rigidly technocratic. It sounds just like the Age of Aquarius is landing. Right on schedule.
